Chief Executive Officer, President and Vice Chairman
Cozzens, who co-founded Picis in 1994, has more than 23 years of experience in the healthcare technology and information systems industry. It was Cozzens’ original strategic vision of information systems for the high-acuity care areas of hospitals that drove the company’s growth trajectory over 1,500% since 2001. Prior to Picis, he served as the president of a division of Marquette Medical Systems (now GE Healthcare) and held several other senior management positions, including vice president of sales, from 1983 to 1995. Cozzens is a graduate of Marquette University and the Harvard Business School Executive Program for Management Development. He was named Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young in 2005 and was a four-time member of the U.S. Olympic Sailing Team. Cozzens is vice chairman and a director of the company’s board of directors.
Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President
Christine Cournoyer joined Picis in 2006 where she ensures Picis continues to provide industry-leading products and services to its customers while optimizing the company’s internal operations. Prior to Picis, Cournoyer was managing director of Harte-Hanks, Inc. and president and COO at Lightbridge, Inc. She has also held senior management positions at IBM including vice president of business transformation, vice president of customer operations and technology, and CIO of the software group. Previously she served as a senior vice president at Lotus Development Corp. Cournoyer earned a master’s degree in economics from Northeastern University and is a Ph.D. candidate at the university. She graduated from Lowell University and attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Executive Education Program. Cournoyer was profiled in Information Week magazine as one of the ten most influential women in technology.
Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President of Finance and Administration
Melissa Cruz is responsible for managing all financial functions of the company and is an invaluable resource for the company’s growth and expansion. Prior to joining Picis in 2007, Cruz was senior vice president and CFO at BladeLogic. She has also served as executive vice president and CFO at Concord Communications, and as director of finance at SeaChange International. She began her finance career at Digital Equipment Corporation. In addition to her strong finance background, Cruz has also managed legal, human resources, information technology and investor relations functions in her various positions. Cruz has a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Boston College and a Master’s in Management from Lesley University.
President, Emergency Care Division
Mark Crockett, co-developer of the company’s emergency department information system, currently oversees the emergency care division and helps drive the direction of Picis’ ED product development, sales and growth. An attending physician at Morris Hospital in Morris, Illinois, he maintains a solid understanding of the day-to-day workings of an emergency department and the need for automating the documentation process in this intense environment. Crockett graduated from Wheaton College and has a medical degree from the University of Illinois. With his extensive knowledge in the fields of emergency medicine, medical informatics and systems architecture, he is a published author and a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians.
Chief Technology Officer
Nivaldo Diaz joined Picis in 1999 and has been instrumental in leading product development. In his current role, Diaz drives the company’s technology vision, strategy and execution for all products and is the leading authority to the executive team regarding technology direction and solutions. Prior to this, Diaz oversaw all product development activities for the high-acuity product line. Diaz has more than 25 years of professional software development experience, such as network management, travel reservation, database publishing, public sector and healthcare. Prior to Picis, he worked at the software and services company HTE Inc. where he was senior director of product development and responsible for nearly 30 commercial software applications. Previously, he worked for SEI Information Technology as product development manager and for Telecommunications Data Services in Europe as manager of software development and support. Diaz graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J.
Senior Vice President of Business Development
Scott Lentz is responsible for overseeing the company’s business development and corporate development functions. Since joining the company in 1998, Lentz has led and operationalized all financial aspects of Picis. During his tenure as chief financial officer, he was responsible for overseeing and executing the company’s three acquisitions and its major debt and equity financings. Prior to joining Picis, Lentz was the chief financial officer of Stream Line Inc., a manufacturer of specialty sporting goods. Lentz graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy, where he received the Marine Underwriters’ Award for Highest Proficiency in Economics, and from the University of Washington, where he received his Masters in Business Administration.
Senior Vice President of Global Marketing and Chief Marketing Officer
Mike Mitsock, who joined Picis in 2006, is responsible for all global marketing functions, with particular focus on global product management, product marketing and marketing communications. Mitsock has more than 25 years’ experience in the technology sector. He was most recently chief marketing officer for Tele Atlas, a supplier of digital maps for navigation applications. Previously, he served as vice president of worldwide marketing and product management at Lightbridge, a leading application provider in the wireless industry. He has also held executive marketing positions at Progress Software and SupplyWorks, Inc., where he helped drive product strategy, lead generation programs and company branding. Mitsock holds engineering degrees from MIT and Northeastern University, and an MBA in Marketing and Strategic Management from Boston University.
Chief Physician Executive
Dr. Nunez joined Picis in 2000 to provide clinical direction for product development, product marketing, sales and customer relations. Prior to joining Picis, Nunez served as director of education and research for the Division of Critical Care Medicine at NorthEast Medical Center in North Carolina. Nunez graduated from the University of Miami School of Medicine, where he completed his training in anesthesiology and critical care medicine. While at the University of Miami, Nunez helped initiate the search for a perioperative information system and was instrumental in the selection of the Picis system. He has published and presented extensively on the topics of anesthesia and critical care informatics, clinical data analysis, cerebral blood flow auto-regulation and anesthesia history. Nunez is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of The International Journal of Critical Care.
Senior Vice President of Client Operations
Kevin Pettet joined Picis in 2005 where he oversees all services provided to Picis clients including product delivery, support and consulting. Prior to Picis, Pettet held senior operations positions at Source Medical Solutions, a company specializing in the outpatient market. He also served as director of operations for a business unit of GE Capital, while achieving Six Sigma certification. Pettet earned a master's degree in business administration in strategy and marketing from Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management and a master's degree in engineering management from the University of Missouri . He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point with a degree in engineering. Additionally, Pettet served in the U.S. Army as an engineer officer and worked in planning combat operations.
Executive Vice President of Global Sales
Elizabeth Popovich co-founded the company in 1994 and has led the sales and marketing efforts of Picis since the company’s inception. She was formerly the director of marketing for Marquette Electronics’ (now GE Healthcare) Patient Monitoring & Clinical Information Systems division for Europe, where she became one of the industry’s leading experts in perioperative and critical care information systems. Prior to that she was responsible for bringing a revolutionary new patient monitor for cardiac surgery to market at Marquette. Popovich earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Marquette University and has supervised the intensive care unit and cardiac surgery nursing teams at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Milwaukee.
President of the Perioperative Care Division
Joseph Smith currently oversees the perioperative care division where he helps drive the direction of Picis’ perioperative software design, sales and growth. Smith developed the company’s award-winning operating room management system and first integrated it with the Meditech hospital information system. He then led the migration of the product line to standard industry technology which now enables its integration to all hospital information systems on the market. With his extensive technical background and leadership skills, Smith has held many positions within the company, including vice president of software development. A native of Boston, Smith graduated from Bentley College.
