Todd C. CozzensTodd C. Cozzens
Chief Executive Officer and Vice Chairman
Cozzens, who co-founded Picis in 1994, has more than 23 years of experience in the healthcare technology and information systems industry. It was Cozzens’ original strategic vision of information systems for the high-acuity care areas of hospitals that drove the company’s growth trajectory over 1,500% since 2001. Prior to Picis, he served as the president of a division of Marquette Medical Systems (now GE Healthcare) and held several other senior management positions, including vice president of sales, from 1983 to 1995. Cozzens is a graduate of Marquette University and the Harvard Business School Executive Program for Management Development. He was named Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young in 2005 and was a four-time member of the U.S. Olympic Sailing Team. Cozzens is vice chairman and a director of the company’s board of directors.  


Elizabeth A. Popovich Elizabeth A. Popovich
Executive Vice President of International Operations
Elizabeth Popovich, co-founder of the company, provides strategic and executive leadership of sales and operations outside of North America as the company rapidly expands its international presence. Prior to this, she led the sales and marketing efforts of Picis since the company’s inception. She was formerly the director of marketing for Marquette Electronics’ (now GE Healthcare) Patient Monitoring & Clinical Information Systems division for Europe, where she became one of the industry’s leading experts in perioperative and critical care information systems. Prior to that she was responsible for bringing a revolutionary new patient monitor for cardiac surgery to market at Marquette. Popovich earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Marquette University and has supervised the intensive care unit and cardiac surgery nursing teams at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Milwaukee.


Christine Cournoyer Christine M. Cournoyer
President and Chief Operating Officer
Christine Cournoyer is responsible for advancing all areas of the company with her executive leadership and advisory capacity as COO and president. Prior to joining Picis in 2006, Cournoyer was managing director of Harte-Hanks, Inc. and president and COO at Lightbridge, Inc. She has also held senior management positions at IBM including vice president of business transformation, vice president of customer operations and technology, and CIO of the software group. Previously she served as a senior vice president at Lotus Development Corp. Cournoyer earned a master’s degree in economics from Northeastern University. She graduated from Lowell University and attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Executive Education Program. Cournoyer was named one of the ten most influential women in technology by Business Week and serves on the board of directors for BJ’s Wholesale Club, Inc.


Melissa Cruz Melissa Cruz
Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President of Finance and Administration
Melissa Cruz is responsible for managing all financial functions of the company and is an invaluable resource for the company’s growth and expansion. Prior to joining Picis in 2007, Cruz was senior vice president and CFO at BladeLogic. She has also served as executive vice president and CFO at Concord Communications, and as director of finance at SeaChange International. She began her finance career at Digital Equipment Corporation. In addition to her strong finance background, Cruz has also managed legal, human resources, information technology and investor relations functions in her various positions. Cruz has a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Boston College and a Master’s in Management from Lesley University.


Sam AdamsSamuel H. Adams
Senior Vice President of Sales, North America
Sam Adams is responsible for leading the company to rapid growth and market leadership in high-acuity care. As a strategic and passionate leader with more than 22 years experience, Adams is a proven and successful sales executive and senior executive leader in the software industry. Prior to joining Picis, Adams was the president and CEO of St. Croix Systems, a software organization focused on cost improvements in healthcare. He also served as senior vice president and general manager of Lawson Software, Inc. where he led teams in multiple markets including government and education and financial services. He also held the position of vice president of healthcare for Lawson, the organization’s largest vertical practice. Adams is a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University with a bachelor’s of arts in economics.


Mark D. Crockett, M.D., F.A.C.E.P.Mark D. Crockett, M.D., F.A.C.E.P.
President, Emergency Care Division
Mark Crockett, co-developer of the company’s emergency department information system, currently oversees the emergency care division and helps drive the direction of Picis’ ED product development, sales and growth. An attending physician at Morris Hospital in Morris, Illinois, he maintains a solid understanding of the day-to-day workings of an emergency department and the need for automating the documentation process of this intense environment. Crockett graduated from Wheaton College and has a medical degree from the University of Illinois. Crockett has extensive knowledge in the fields of emergency medicine, medical informatics and systems architecture. He is a published author and a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians.


Mike DeTollaMike DeTolla
Senior Vice President of Revenue Management Solutions
Mike DeTolla, who joined the company in 1997, made an immediate impact by doubling the revenue of software sales for LYNX Medical Systems, a Picis company. As senior vice president of revenue management solutions, DeTolla oversees sales marketing and customer operations for this section of the business, while generating new business and retaining the company’s existing client base. Prior to joining the company, DeTolla held positions including as a healthcare analyst with Baxter, analytic services manager for Healthcare Compare Corporation and director of business development with John Alden Insurance. DeTolla received his Bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Connecticut.


Lourdes EngelLourdes Engel
Senior Vice President of Product Development and Chief Technical Officer
Lourdes Engel, who joined Picis in 2007, is responsible for all of the company’s existing global product development functions and software quality efforts for the emergency care, perioperative and critical care product lines. Engel is a software engineering and technology expert with more than 20 years of senior level experience managing enterprise software development projects and teams. Previously, she held the position of vice president, engineering and technical operations at InMagic, Inc. Her extensive work history also includes technical and executive level positions at Motorola, ChannelWave Software and Sensormatic Electronics Corporation. Engel has a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Miami and a Master’s in Computer Engineering from Florida Atlantic University.


Scott IversonScott Iverson
Senior Vice President of Professional Services
Scott Iverson, who joined Picis in 2007, is responsible for the company’s North American professional service organization as well as learning services and business transformation services. Iverson has more than two decades of experience, with expertise in all operational aspects of professional services. Most recently, Iverson served as senior vice president of professional services at Harte-Hanks, a direct marketing company. Earlier in his career, Iverson built the east professional services team at Epiphany where he was responsible for all delivery engagements of the company’s operational and analytic CRM applications. He began his career with Andersen Consulting. Iverson has a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Boston College.


Mike Mitsock Mike Mitsock
Senior Vice President of Global Marketing and Chief Marketing Officer
Mike Mitsock, who joined Picis in 2006, is responsible for all global marketing functions, with particular focus on global product management, product marketing and marketing communications. Mitsock has more than 25 years’ experience in the technology sector. He was most recently chief marketing officer for Tele Atlas, a supplier of digital maps for navigation applications. Previously, he served as vice president of worldwide marketing and product management at Lightbridge, a leading application provider in the wireless industry. He has also held executive marketing positions at Progress Software and SupplyWorks, Inc., where he helped drive product strategy, lead generation programs and company branding. Mitsock holds engineering degrees from MIT and Northeastern University, and an MBA in Marketing and Strategic Management from Boston University.


Carlos M. Nunez, M.D.Carlos M. Nunez, M.D.
Chief Physician Executive
Dr. Nunez joined Picis in 2000 to provide clinical direction for product development, product marketing, sales and customer relations. Prior to joining Picis, Nunez served as director of education and research for the Division of Critical Care Medicine at NorthEast Medical Center in North Carolina. Nunez graduated from the University of Miami School of Medicine, where he completed his training in anesthesiology and critical care medicine. While at the University of Miami, Nunez helped initiate the search for a perioperative information system and was instrumental in the selection of the Picis system. He has published and presented extensively on the topics of anesthesia and critical care informatics, clinical data analysis, cerebral blood flow auto-regulation and anesthesia history. Nunez is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of The International Journal of Critical Care.


David Stowell David Stowell
Senior Vice President of Client Operations
As senior vice president of client operations, Stowell is responsible for all services provided to Picis North American clients, including support, product delivery, and consulting as well as Picis’ documentation. Since joining Picis in 1996, Stowell has overseen many areas of the company, including customer and technical support, implementation, contract programming and enterprise solutions. Stowell left Picis in 2006 to join Summit Healthcare as chief operating officer. He rejoined Picis a year later as vice president of business process transformation where he most recently worked on business process improvements across the company. Stowell is a graduate of Westfield State College with a Bachelor’s degree in Business with a concentration in Finance.
