Picis Releases Newest Version of Perioperative and Critical Care Solutions
Superior interoperability with hospital information systems enables medical centers to increase efficiency and help improve patient care in the perioperative and ICU departments
WAKEFIELD, Mass. — April 1, 2008 — Picis, the leading provider of high-acuity care information systems, today announced the immediate availability of version 8.1 of its total perioperative automation (TPA) and critical care applications, part of the CareSuite® family of high-acuity solutions. This release further enhances the interoperability portfolio of Picis solutions with hospital information systems (HIS) and bedside medical devices used in surgical areas and intensive care units (ICU). These advanced interoperability options enable hospitals to increase efficiency and clinical workflow by decreasing redundant data entry and improving the availability of patient data throughout the hospital, which in turn helps clinicians achieve better patient outcomes. Picis is scheduled to exhibit its CareSuite product line at the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Congress in Anaheim, Calif. (booth #244), April 1-3.
Picis' CareSuite total perioperative automation information system is the leading global system that manages all the clinical, business and financial functions across the entire surgical continuum of care with applications including Preop Manager, OR Manager, Anesthesia Manager and PACU Manager. Critical Care Manager automates and improves documentation of treatments and assessments, and supports enhanced care management throughout the ICU.
As part of this release, the following new interoperability options are now available:
- Current medications HL7 bi-directional interface - is a key part of the medication reconciliation process that ensures important medication data are consistent, accurate and up-to-date for clinicians, thereby helping to reduce medication and patient errors. It enables Picis solutions to automatically send, receive and synchronize changes to patient medication data with other hospital applications.
- Preoperative data bi-directional interface - provides clinicians with a patient's complete medical history prior to the surgical episode to help support decision-making. It automatically receives information from a patient's medical history from any HIS or data source, including surgical history, physical exams, tests and results to Picis Preop Manager using HL7 standards. In addition, hospitals can send this data outbound to a clinical data repository (CDR) or hospital information system where all patient data is stored.
- Inbound documentation link - allows scanned documents such as history and physical reports, EKG reports, medical images and patient monitoring waveforms to be directly accessed from Preop Manager, Anesthesia Manager, PACU Manager and Critical Care Manager, enabling clinicians to conveniently view the documents without leaving the Picis environment.
- Pyxis® Procedure Station™ system interface - leverages the capability of Pyxis supply technologies from Cardinal Health by eliminating the need for dual data entry of supplies taken from the Pyxis® ProcedureStation™ system and used during a procedure documented in Picis' OR Manager system. This enables hospitals to improve charge capture with more accurate documentation of inventory. Redundant data entry by care providers is also eliminated, helping to improve efficiency in surgical areas.
“As a pioneer in the high-acuity space, Picis is committed to delivering an unparalleled level of interoperability with hospital information systems, pharmacy, laboratory, medication dispensing systems and medical devices,” said Carlos M. Nunez, M.D., chief physician executive, Picis. “We understand that hospitals want the best technology in their high-acuity areas without compromising their hospital-wide IT strategies. With version 8.1, hospitals can leverage Picis connectivity with other hospital technology to improve efficiency and provide a complete continuum of care in the ICU and perioperative areas.”
