Exempla Healthcare System Standardizes on Picis Emergency Department Information System
Picis helps optimize efficiency and productivity through successful integration with existing HIS systems and implementation of Business Transformation Services
WAKEFIELD, Mass.— May 13, 2008 — Picis, the leading provider of high-acuity care information systems, today announced that Exempla Lutheran Medical Center and Exempla St. Joseph Hospital, part of Exempla Healthcare in Denver, Colo., have successfully deployed Picis ED PulseCheck®, part of the CareSuite® family of high-acuity solutions, in the hospitals’ emergency departments (EDs). Picis’ comprehensive emergency department information system (EDIS) integrates with Exempla Healthcare’s existing ambulatory electronic medical record (EMR) from Epic Systems Corporation and inpatient EMRs from Medical Information Technology, Inc. (Meditech) and Epic to create a seamless transfer of patient information across systems, helping to increase operational efficiency and improve patient care. ED PulseCheck, the market-leading EDIS, combines patient tracking, physician and nursing documentation, integrated risk management and revenue management solutions in a single, easy-to-use Web-native application.
“Exempla Healthcare is committed to being the ‘Best in the Nation’ when it comes to quality patient care. Two of Exempla’s ED facilities, which are now servicing over 150,000 encounters per year, chose PulseCheck as the premier emergency services clinical documentation system in the industry. We are pleased to have the information tools within PulseCheck to achieve our performance and quality goals,” stated David C. Pecoraro, vice president and CIO, Exempla Healthcare.
To help maximize the efficiency, effectiveness and adoption of the solution, Exempla utilized the Physician Adoption program, part of Picis’ Business Transformation Services, in which experienced emergency physician and nursing consultants work closely with ED staff to identify specific goals and promote physician-driven adoption of the ED PulseCheck automated documentation and clinical tools.
“The Physician Adoption program has been a valuable resource for us throughout the entire implementation process,” said Justin Chang, M.D., emergency physician, Exempla St. Joseph Hospital. “Using the expertise of a fellow physician who has successfully gone through the implementation process already, we were able to build upon his past experiences and avoid many possible pitfalls. As a result, we were able to deliver a better solution to our clinicians and achieve quicker adoption among the emergency department staff.”
“The full integration of high-acuity information systems such as ED PulseCheck with existing hospital information systems is essential to helping achieve the highest quality of patient care,” said Mark D. Crockett, M.D., F.A.C.E.P., president of Picis’ Emergency Care Division. “Picis is committed to not only making this possible for hospitals but also ensuring that the implementation process is as smooth as possible and the effectiveness of the solution is optimized.”
