Target High Acuity First

The high-acuity areas of the hospital (ED, OR and ICU) are strategically important to your organization as major sources of revenue and cost consumption. Yet these areas are also where the highest incidence of inefficiency and medical errors occur, and have been traditionally underserved by technology. In addition to the prominent place these high-acuity areas hold in the delivery of acute care services, they also represent the areas in which much of the data that the Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services (CMS) requires for its quality measures reporting programs are collected. As a result, this cluster of the hospital can benefit most from "meaningful use" of healthcare information technology (HIT).

The promise of the HIT provisions of ARRA 2009 are intended to have the effect of changing lives for the better through improved clinical quality and outcomes, greater efficiency in care delivery, reduced costs, and the identification of best practices in standards of care. With an eye toward the future, Picis believes that the emphasis on demonstration of "meaningful use" is only attainable with information technology that includes the high-acuity areas that capture the rich clinical data necessary for reporting on quality initiatives that drive CMS reimbursement.

High-acuity solutions that deliver

As a healthcare executive, you are faced with the unenviable task of prioritizing from a constantly growing list of competing initiatives. When you look at the benefits from implementing Picis, it’s clear that high acuity should be a top priority:

  • ROI: Picis solutions are proven to deliver significant hard-dollar ROI.  This money can be used to help fund long-term projects such as your Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE).
  • Patient satisfaction: With improved efficiency, better throughput and enhanced care regimens, Picis solutions increase patient satisfaction.
  • User satisfaction: Picis not only increases the productivity of your most skilled and in-demand clinicians, it also enhances their quality of life and job satisfaction.
  • Patient safety: Picis applications are designed to facilitate clinical intervention by providing on-the-spot access to the latest information, as well as hospital care protocols and best practices.

“One system can't do everything well. For organizations where state-of-the-art capabilities are expected in every area, the only way to accomplish that is through best of breed. Just like in cars, a high performance racing vehicle is not the best vehicle for commuting to work every day, and the best car for your daily commute would run far back in the pack on the race track.”
